I Didn't Poop, But I Could've

I have been sitting here so stupidly excited after getting Noah Kahan tickets.

Honestly, it felt like winning the lottery.

Music has always had a way of making my whole body feel things, right down to my toes. It starts with this heavy ache in my chest, then the tingles work their way through my arms, and by the time the goosebumps show up... just hand me the tissues because I'm going to cry.

There's something about music that makes you feel like someone reached into your own brain and somehow put your thoughts into lyrics. A few days ago I got selected through Ticketmaster's lottery to buy Noah tickets. I actually screamed. I didn't poop (IYKYK) but I could've.

As I'm editing video today, I keep rewatching the one I did on Saturday doing dishes, the dogs sitting in the background. I trail off dancing and singing to "Doors" from Noah's new album. You see the moment it sinks in. Live on camera. The pure excitement and joy. There's a stupid smile on my face while I work, the dogs recovering from partying a little too hard at our Christmas in July party yesterday, and I started thinking...

@beautifullyordinaryjen I’ve waited months for this moment… Somehow I won the lottery. Three days. 🤍🌲 Still doesn’t feel real. 🥹 #NoahKahan #TheGreatDivideTour #ConcertTok #NoahKahanFans #Atlanta ♬ Dan - Noah Kahan

Why do moments like this matter so much to me?

Photography does this too. People always say photographs help you remember. But I don't think they just help me remember what happened. They help me remember how it felt. I can look at one picture and suddenly remember the weather, what Shane said five minutes before I took it, how excited I was, or how peaceful everything felt.

Music works exactly the same way. There are only a handful of concerts I've cried at.

And yes… I know. I ugly cry at everything. My sister has an entire montage proving it. But those tears don't embarrass me anymore.

They remind me I was completely there.

Present.

Feeling every second of it. Tomorrow, I'll probably ugly cry through Noah Kahan. Deep snot bubbles. No voice by song two. Zero regrets. Because years from now… I won't remember what I wore. I won't remember where I parked. But I have a feeling I'll remember exactly how it felt.

And honestly...

That's the part I never want to lose.
